Submitter's name: Andy Radcliffe
Title: Scots Pine in Tholt-y-Will plantation.
Gear used: Olympus E-1 and Zuiko 50-200mm lens (used at 60mm)
Diaphragm: f6.3
Shutter speed: 1/1600th sec.
Film: Digital @ ISO 200
Technical information: Raw file converted to an 8 bit tiff using Olympus Studio.
A black and white version was produced using channel mixer and curves in PS 7, then re-sized to 800 x 600 with Fred Miranda's " E-1 Resize Pro" and saved as a jpeg.
Subject: I was undecided on whether to submit the colour or black and white version and spent quite some time comparing the two - in the end I decided on the B+W version, although even now I'm still not sure it was the right decision...
Anyway, the subject is one of only a few Scots Pines that stand out among a plantation of Larch and Douglas fir in Tholt-y-Will plantation, which is about a 30 minute walk from our home.

Comment left by: Manuel Viet (no e-mail specified) I don't know for the colour version, but the b&w is splendid. Makes me considering the possibility of a switch to digital, not a small feat because all digital b&w I've seen until now had more or less a set back effect on me. This shot by itself proves digital can make clean b&w.

Many thanks for the compliment.
